The seedlings getting ready to be planted into the Indige-Spheres Youth Group Garden – our COVID – 19 Summer 2020 project.
Working in the community garden

The Indige-Spheres Youth Group has been informally gathering since 2016 and first received funding as a formalized indigenous youth group in the 2018-2019 fiscal year. We received our funding through the Trillium Foundation’s Youth Opportunities Fund.

We were successful in our application for a Seed Grant and we are excited about our opportunities for learning and leading.

Throughout the year we host 2 Core Weekend Sessions. Some of the topics we have covered are Mental Health, Indigenous Tattooing, Gaming/Gambling. We have also had day sessions on topics like financial literacy, budgeting, proposal writing and report writing.

We want to increase our capacity and learn the skills that will guide us to being leaders and mentors in our communities.

Special additions to our program have included a cross-Canada educational tour to attend a Peace Building through Music workshop on Cortes Island, British Columbia and an opportunity to meet with scholars in Edmonton, Alberta. Non-formal experiential learning is a big part of our program and we welcome any indigenous youth to come to our group and be a part of our team. We also welcome indigenous youth (14-29) with their children too.

If you would like to know more about our group and upcoming workshops, please contact the Youth Leaders email! We look forward to meeting you!
